Sensitization on the effect of drug abuse among secondary school students
This project was carried out at GGS Bukuru Secondary School. Supervised by Mrs Joyce. Featuring NAFDAC, NDLEA and SON.
NYSC SDG Group offered Free Skill Acquisition Training programme to students.
NYSC Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) CDS group in Taraba State organized a two-month free skill acquisition programme for secondary school students of Zing LGA.
The free skill acquisition programme which took place from May to June 2017 was to impact the lives of the young secondary school students of Taraba State. Participants received trainings in different areas such as bead making, cosmetology, food processing, ICT and Fashion/Designing.
Over 100 students were trained on the skill of their choice at Government Technical Training School, GTTS where the programme began.
The facilitators were: Paul Chinasa Nancy, Frederick Chizoba, Chiemeka Nnorom Felix amongst others.
Corps Members Sensitize Students on Health, Skill Acquisition & Personal Hygiene.
Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Ovia South West Local Government area of Edo state under the auspices of Nigerian Christian Corpers fellowship, on July 5th, 2020 sensitized secondary school students in the environment on proper personal hygiene, effective communication skills, skill acquisition and career path choices.
The Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship arm of Ovia Southwest LGA, Iguobazuwa zone took its sensitization exercise to the students of Mother of Mercy Comprehensive Catholic Secondary School, Edo State as the host school which had students from other schools in attendance such as Access Academy, Gloryfield School, Graceland School and others.
The career talk, held at the school hall, drew the attention of about 100 students with the Corps members sensitizing the students through in-depth career guidance and counseling, where they enlightened the students on various personal hygiene manners, good etiquette and mannerism, how to discover themselves, their strengths, values, personality and skills.
The compere at the event, Corper Damilare Olaniyan who anchored the event to the admiration of the students and teachers ensured the atmosphere was never a dull moment as he simultaneously engaged the students through prompt questioning and active participation.
Corper Busayo Ogundipe enlightened the students as regards the initiative of the programme which was the first maiden edition of the Teenagers forum by NCCF in the zone aimed at sensitizing the students as regards their well-being and other intellectual discourse.
At the event, a talk presentation on "Health talk" was delivered by Corper Idris Olanrewaju as regards aspect of the environmental health, while Corper Bukunmi Ezekiel sensitized the young students on the need for "personal hygiene" and "Sex Education".
Rehabilitation of Hand-held Water Pump by James Anwoh
During a visit to a school in the Egbedore local government area of Osun state for a CDS sensitization program, Corps member James Anwoh noticed that the pupils lacked access to a good water supply but had a hand-held water pump borehole which wasn't functional. Determined to make a difference, he decided to rehabilitate it.
He embarked on the project, carefully assessing the borehole and identifying the necessary repairs. With the support of local technicians and the community, James sourced the required materials and diligently worked on restoring the pump.
After several days of hard work and overcoming various challenges, he was successful in restoring a reliable water supply to the school. The pupils and staff expressed their heartfelt gratitude, as the availability of clean water significantly improved their daily lives and hygiene standards.
This initiative not only addressed an immediate need but also showcased the impact of community service and the dedication of Corps members like James Anwoh.
Erection Of Ceramic Sign Board For The Sensitization On The Negative Effect Of Drug Abuse
During his community development service, Corps member of Drugs Free & Quality CDS group spearheaded the erection of a ceramic signboard to raise awareness about the negative effects of drug abuse. Recognizing the growing concern of drug misuse among the youth, they aimed to create a lasting visual reminder that would educate and inform the community.
The signboard, strategically placed at a prominent location within the Egbedore local government area of Osun state, features clear and impactful messages about the dangers of drug abuse, urging the youth to make healthier life choices.
The initiative received widespread support from local authorities and community members, who lauded the effort as a crucial step towards combating drug abuse. The ceramic signboard, with its durable and weather-resistant design, ensures that the message will remain visible and relevant for years to come. This project not only highlights the importance of preventive education but also exemplifies the proactive role that Corps members in fostering community well-being and resilience.
